-
William Joseph Donovan, son of Irish immigrants,
Catholic, lawyer, Republican, US intelligence chief.
-
Vitaly Yurchenko, a Russian who spied for, then later
defected to, the US, visited DCI William Casey at Langley, Virginia and
had lunch with him in his private dining room...where he noted that Casey's
fly was open. (Spying for America, by Nathan Miller; pg 492.)
-
While Casey was working for the Reasearch Institute
of America (RIA) in 1941, he and he co-worker Leo Cherne claimed that the
"United States is unlikely to get involved in the war in Europe until a
triggering event occurs in the Pacific." That was published on December
2, 1941. 5 days later, Pearl Harbor was bombed.
-
When Casey was working for the Office of Strategic
Services (OSS, or humorously, the Oh So Secret) in London, he attended
a budget meeting chaired by Junius Morgan. At this time, he was a
lieutenant (junior grade) in the US Navy. As he stood by the door
where people were filing in, Lieutenant Commander Raymond Guest said to
him, "Get me a chair, Lieutenant." Casey replied, "Get it yourself."
Casey got a stern warning from his supervisor, but that was it. No
charges were brought against him.
-
When Casey was a kid, he was punched in the throat
in a backyard boxing match. His face changed color, he fell to his
knees, he was gasping for air, his eyes bugging out, and blood coming from
the corner of his mouth. They next day, he was back to boxing.
However, this incident has caused him to have poor speech for the remainder
of his life.
